Lessons From A Retweet
Yesterday I had the great fortune to have a Twitter message retweeted by Ed Dale himself. Ed’s had a great influence on me the last few months so this was a pretty exciting thing for me, especially being fairly new to Twitter. As I thought more about this, I wanted to share a couple of the lessons I learned from this. There are some interesting conclusions for anyone who blogs or uses Twitter.
The main lessons were:
- You never know what will get attention. This was an incidental post, not primary content for the site.
- It was the 2nd Tweet to be forwarded. Promoting a blog post more than once is OK!
- It’s OK to use a person’s name when you’re promoting your content, as long as you’re being genuine and not trying to take advantage of their good name.
Thanks again to Ed! His small gesture gave this site a much needed boost in its early stages, and it gave me a great feeling of encouragement.
